William vs. Harry: Which Polo-Playin' Prince Is Hotter?

They may be an ocean apart, but today both Prince William and Prince Harry hit the polo fields...

Wills and Kate Middleton went north to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles this morning, where the newlywed prince took part in the Foundation Polo Challenge. During a prematch speech, Wills charmed the crowd when he joked about coming back to Santa Barbara: "In terms of returning, that's completely dependent on the results. I'm not a good loser."

One-half of Widdleton suited up in a dark bluish-purple No. 4 jersey with white pants.

Across the Pond, little brother Harry had his game face on at the Rundle Cup in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England. Britain's bad-boy bachelor wore his red No. 2 shirt half untucked with white pants and dark-brown boots, natch.

Obvi, they're both pretty studly—but which polo player scores with you today, William or Harry?

Five Lessons from Prince Willliam and Kate Middleton's Polo Play (and Kisses)

If you've watched Pretty Woman, you've seen a polo match.

But if you've watched Prince William and Kate Middleton at a polo match, then you've learned a valuable thing—or five—about the sport.

Ready to take notes?

1. Polo Is a Really, Really Easy Game to Follow: All you have to do is follow the bouncing, lunging blue No. 4 jersey worn by the future King of England. (At least that's what a good 90 percent of the spectators at the Santa Barbara Polo & Raquet Club did.) If you want to appear especially astute, let out a cheer whenever the aforementioned future King of the England hits the little round ball with his long stick thingy. 

2. Polo Is Not Unlike a High-School Football Game: If you had the chance to spy Kate in the stands, as we did via the eagle eye of an E! News' camera, then you noticed she smiled a lot, clapped when her husband did well—and, above all, chatted away with her seatmates. (Well, it's not like it's a hard game to follow, after all…)

3. The Other Guys Will Not Let You Win Just 'Cause You May Be, Like, the Future King of England: Could there have been any winner today other than William? The TV show that was pretaping its congratulatory standups didn't seem to think so. But before the tournament, Wesley Ru, a player whose team was pitted against William's, told us that going easy on the royal was unthinkable. "We have to give him the respect and the honor of being tough competitors," he said. And, as if proof of that, the other guys (and woman) stifled William in the first match. (It was in the prince's second match that he made like a superstar, and knocked in his team's first four goals.)

4. Pretty Woman Lied: The Foundation Polo Challenge was an A-plus-list charity event in which the cheap seats went for $400 a pop, and sporting types ponied up as much as $100,000 for the privilege of playing alongside William. In short, it was way ritzier than that shindig Julia Roberts went to with Richard Gere. And you know what? It wasn't snooty at all. There was a table selling T-shirts, caps and plastic ponies. You could've totally pumped your fist without reproach. (Also, so you know, nobody who was anybody you would know wore a hat—Kate included.)

5. If You're on the Winning Team, and You're a Handsome Duke, Then You Get Two Kisses From a Lovely Duchess: Granted, this is a very, very specific lesson, and cannot be applied to any match that wasn't played this afternoon in Santa Barbara, or to any couple who isn't William and Kate. But it was still a thrill for the crowd to watch.

Do Prince William and Kate Middleton Make a Red Carpet Redder?

They smiled. They nodded.

And with that, with just that, Prince William and Kate Middleton sucked the air out of an open-air field.

Joe Jonas likely will never try to follow that act again.

And it's unlikely he'll ever have to.

The red carpet today at the Foundation Polo Challenge in Santa Barbara was not an everyday red carpet. Avatar's Zoe Saldana literally thought the shade was different.

"This red feels extra rich," she told us.

Saldana, Rob Lowe, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Molly Sims were among the stars who dared to have their own stars eclipsed by the royals, embarking on day two of their three-day California visit. To a bold-faced name, they said they did it to support William's charity, if not William himself, as well as his new bride.

Said Lowe: "They're great ambassadors."

Not to mention masters at arrivals.

Just before noon, the red-carpet seas were parted, and Hewitt, clad in royal blue, was hurried along. Minutes later, a helicopter descended. 

William and Kate, reporters were told, would walk, but not stop to talk, on the red carpet.

And so they did.

The prince and his wife, both casually elegant, a look that everyone seemed to be going for, but only they (and maybe Lowe, who seems as if he's been attending royal polo matches all his life) pulled off, kept a brisk pace.

They looked straight ahead, occasionally turning to meet eyes and TV cameras. They said pleased to meet you without saying pleased to meet you. 

The carpet seemed to fall silent. A shouted question about how they were liking California elicited some niceties from the deep-voiced William. ("Very good. Thank you. Very much.")

And then they were gone.

It was all very fast, and very unremarkable, except for how the two of them commanded attention just by being purposely (or naturally?) natural.

Not long after William and Kate's walk-by, the Hollywood arrivals resumed.

But just as Jonas was about to do the rounds, event security cleared the carpet, and, in their way, reminded him that a Jonas Brother does not trump a royal's schedule. The pop star ended up doing a quick photo-op on the nearby grass.

It was a fitting end, in a way. The red carpet didn't really belong to the stars today.

Not the Hollywood ones, anyway.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Spend Final Day in California With Reese Witherspoon

America's sweetheart, meet the royals.

Prince William and his lovely bride Kate Middleton spent part of their final day in California attending an exclusive private reception to mark the launch of the US Patrons Circle of Tusk, the African wildlife conservation charity. The Duke has been a patron of Tusk since 2005. Among the honored donors of the organization who met with the royal couple: Reese Witherspoon, Disney honcho Bob Iger and Kristin Gore, daughter of former Vice President, Al Gore.

Oscar-winning film producer and philanthropist Steve Tisch hosted the party at his house, saying "it was inspiring to not only have Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend the event, but also to hear how passionately they speak about their commitment to the cause."

Prince William and Kate Middleton Plant a Love Tree in Canada

Awww.

After kicking off Canada Day festivities, Prince William and Kate Middleton carried on the celebration by partaking in a very special tradition in Ottawa Saturday.

Just as Princess Diana and Prince Charles did on William's first birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge planted an Eastern Hemlock tree in the shadow of the Pine Oak planted by William's parents to symbolize their love.

The royal duo's tree is also surrounded by trees from other royals (including the Queen), who have planted 16 ceremonial trees since 1939. 

And in commemoration of their love tree, the couple went on to meet newlyweds married on the same day as them this year, and others celebrating their 50th, 60th and 70th wedding anniversaries.

Love is all around!

Prince William and Kate Middleton Indulge in Cooking Class During Overseas Tour

We'd make a corny joke about a recipe for love, but that seems way too easy.

Prince William and Kate Middleton spent day three of their Canadian tour taking part in a cooking workshop Saturday. So what exactly was on the royal menu?

Wills and Kate, outfitted in personalized chef's whites, visited the Institut de tourisme et d'hotellerie du Quebec in Montreal to learn some classic cooking techniques. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge prepared a soufflé, learned to sear a loin of lamb and piped some meringue. Yum!

The newlyweds are in the midst of their first joint overseas tour. Still ahead for the duo: a search and rescue demonstration at Summerside Harbour in Prince Edward Island, where Prince William can show off his flying skills, and a tour of the University of Calgary.

They'll be busy, but don't worry, we'll be sure to keep track of their Canada-hopping schedule.
