Indian movie industry has been blessed with many greatest talents in the world- be it actors, actresses, filmmakers or technicians. Sadhana Shivdasani is one such actress, whose acting ability has fascinated several Hindi film audiences and especially she was popular for her fringe. She has given many memorable performances and made her presence felt in spite of the tough competition from other actresses. It is said that she always looked up to the talented actress Nutan and this influence might be seen in her enactment also. Sadhana Shivdasani celebrates her birthday on September 2nd and she was born to a family where everybody enjoyed films. Actress Babita, mother of Karishma and Kareena Kapoor, is her cousin.
Sadhana Shivdasani started acting in plays during her college days. Her debut big screen appearance was in the 1st Sindhi movie Abana in 1960. Subodh Mukherjee happened to see her and signed her up in his next film Love In Simla, also starring his son Joy Mukherjee. This movie was directed by debutant filmmaker R K Nayyar, who after a few years married Sadhana. The fringe, which made her popular in the following years, was asked to be cut by R K Nayyar.
Besides starring in romantic movies, Sadhana also acted in horror films. Anita, Saaya and Woh Kaun Thi? were horror movies, for acting in which she received good comments. Aarzoo, Mere Mehboob, Ek Phool Do Maali and Inteqaam were a few of her movies, which had her best performances. For the Filmfare Best Actress Award, she was nominated twice - in 1964 (Woh Kaun Thi?) and in 1965 for Waqt.
She directed and performed in Geeta Mera Naam, released in 1974. After her weeding with R K Nayyar, she decided to be a homemaker. Unfortunately they were not blessed with a baby. Her association with movies was not easily cut off. When the couple started a production house, she was involved in all the processes of the company. Her disinterest in portraying supportive roles made her decline all offers.
In her acting career, she was lucky to have worked along with several of the actors in Hindi movie industry. Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar were some of the leading actors of those times, with whom she worked. In horror and romantic category, some films of hers are classified as iconic films. She is surely an actress who acts with finesse and charm and has created a niche in the industry. About the Author
